Old MacDonald’s Recorder Book is designed specifically to integrate the teaching of the recorder with the general music skills taught in the classroom. The course places the maximum emphasis on combining the development of musical understanding with the joy of music-making. Each teaching step has the following structure: 1. Music literacy is encouraged by presenting new material in clear progressive steps. 2. Short “echo games” develop aural skill, enabling pupils to play simple rhythmic and melodic patterns by ear. 3. A wide-ranging selection of music, including specially commissioned solos, stimulates the imagination and develop repertoire. 4. Instrumental duets and trios encourage group performance and provide experience in ensemble-playing. Full-length concert pieces are designed to be flexible in order to suit classroom resources. Many pieces include optional words and duet/trio recorder parts which enable ensemble recorder-playing to be combined with singing. This creates opportunities to perform full-scale concert works to audiences. A separate book of keyboard accompaniments is also available. Instrumentation: descant recorder
