Bastide of Monflanquin, Mediaeval new townIn the North-East of the Lot-et-Garonne, overlooking the valley of the river Lède, the bastide of Monflanquin stretches out over a hill rising from the South, coming to an abrupt end on its northern flank. Typical of the disposition of the new towns founded in the second half of the XIIIth cent., the bastide has kept the regular arrangement of the original partition of land a network of orthogonal ways : four cartways intersect abreast of the Place des Arcades ; secondary streets complete the network, serving as boundaries to the blocks of dwellings.
