Les XXXe journées internationales d’archéologie mérovingienne (Bordeaux 2-4 octobre 2009) ont permis d’aborder l’un des vestiges les plus marquants en Gaule pour ces siècles de transition, le sarcophage. Rassemblant les contributions de plus de quatre vingt auteurs français et européens, cette thématique est déclinée en six parties en partant de la fabrication du sarcophage à son utilisation, sans oublier une approche historiographique. Un important travail d’équipe a abouti à la présentation de bilans régionaux et à des documents de synthèse cartographiques. Une dernière partie de l’ouvrage rend compte de l’actualité de la recherche sur le haut Moyen Âge dans le Sud-Ouest de la France. XXXth International days of Merovingian archaeology (Bordeaux, October 2-4th, 2009) allowed to approach one of the most striking vestiges in Gaul for these centuries of transition, the sarcophagus. Collecting the contributions ok more than eighty French and European authors, this theme is declined in six parts by leaving of the manufacturing of the sarcophagus in its use, without forgetting a historiographical approach. An important teamwork ended in the presentation of regional assessments and in the cartographic synthesis documents. The last part ok the work reports the currents events of the research on the high Middle Ages in the Southwest of France.
