Davide Perez (1711-1782), who was known to his contemporaries above all as a composer of operas, wrote this skilful late baroque passiontide motet setting of the well-known words from the story of Christ’s Passion. The composer Enjott Schneider was inspired by this composition to write his work “Tenebrae” for soprano, violin and organ (ED 9668). We suggest that a concert performance might feature “Tenebrae” together with this motet by Davide Perez, performed by a choir a cappella. Instrumentation: mixed choir a cappella
